Seoul, January 20 (Yonhap) - South Korea has reported, on Monday, the first confirmed case of China's coronavirus, amid concerns that a pneumonia-like disease begins to spread throughout China and Asia.
According to the South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), a Chinese woman, who suffered from fever, respiratory problems and other symptoms after arriving at Incheon International Airport, tested positive for the virus test.
The KCDC added that the 35-year-old woman, who lives in South Korea, arrived, on Sunday, from the Chinese city of Wuhan, in Hubei province - where the virus appears to have originated - before traveling to Japan in view of the Lunar New Year that falls this week.
Since then, the patient is in quarantine at a local hospital for treatment.
The agency said it has raised its alert level and ordered local governments to reinforce monitoring.
The Beijing Government has reported almost 200 infected patients and 3 deaths to date.
New cases of people who have become ill and have pneumonia-like symptoms have been reported in Japan and Thailand.
Beijing has said that the new coronavirus strain is not contagious among people; however, the World Health Organization (WHO) is not ruling out transmission between people under certain conditions.
