Trump blasts climate "doomsayers" in Davos |
President Donald Trump arrived in Davos, Switzerland,
Tuesday, January 21, to participate in the World Economic Forum , a
few hours before his impeachment trial got to the heart of the matter
in Washington.
In her much awaited speech, the tenant of the White House
attacked without naming her to Greta Thunberg, the environmental activist, also
present in the Swiss station to defend the fight against global warming.
"Predictions of the apocalypse"
"We must reject the eternal prophets of doom and their
predictions of the apocalypse," said Donald Trump, shortly after the young
Swedish girl regretted that "nothing has been done" to stop
climate change.
After spouting in a rather monotonous tone a long list of
economic and social successes, having earned in the United States "a boom
like never seen before", the American president praised the abundant
production of hydrocarbons from United States, "world number one in gas
and oil", and their energy independence. Without ever mentioning
renewable energy.
At the end of this real campaign speech, the billionaire,
who is running for re-election and faces a dismissal trial, said that
"fear and doubt (were not) good ways of thinking", praising the
innovation rather than regulation.
Difficult not to see in her speech a message to
environmental activists and in particular to Greta Thunberg, who, according to
the New York Times, should repeat it in the afternoon in a speech that it is
time to "panic "because the" house is burning". These
expressions had already impressed the economic and political elite of Davos
during the first participation last year of the young Swedish girl.
