Beijing. -
The overall number of the corona virus Covid-19 epidemic overcame the barrier of 1,500 dead in China on Saturday, with 138 new victims in Hubei, after a day in which the first case was confirmed in an African country.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that it registered the first case on the continent. The infected person, who is known not to be of Egyptian nationality, was hospitalized in quarantine.

This Saturday, the Provincial Health Commission of the Chinese province of Hubei reported 139 new deaths in that region in the past 24 hours, and thus the total number of people killed in China amounted to 1,519.
Almost 66,000 people have already been contaminated, with the majority of cases being concentrated in the Hubei region, in the center of the country.
Due to the tide of patients in Hubei hospitals and the shortage of protective supplies (masks, full suits), numerous health personnel are at the mercy of the contamination.
According to official data, at least 1,716 health professionals, including doctors and nurses, were already contaminated, and six of them have died.
The announcement of the hospital's pollution figure comes a week after the death of a doctor due to the virus, the doctor had tried to alert the authorities but had been reprimanded by the police. His death had provoked anger on social networks.

Great test for China
The fight against the virus constitutes "a great test for the country's system and governance capacity," President Xi Jinping acknowledged Friday. The epidemic revealed "gaps and inadequacies," admitted Xi, who called for improving the national health system.
Authorities have struggled to distribute protective equipment in Wuhan hospitals, but many doctors have treated patients without appropriate masks or protective suits or have used the same equipment several times, when they should change it regularly, AFP said.
Mainland China accounts for 99.9% of deaths recorded in the world by the new coronavirus. So far, only Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong reported one death each.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also came out in defense of China on Friday following US criticism over Beijing's alleged "lack of transparency."
"We have a government that cooperates with us, that invites international experts, that has shared sequences [of the virus], that continues to work with the outside world, that has published in credible international medical journals," said the head of the emergency department Healthcare Companies, Michael Ryan, discarding US criticism.
The United States turned the tone in the White House after acknowledgements  from President Donald Trump to his Chinese counterpart.
"We are a bit disappointed with the lack of transparency of the Chinese," said the day before Larry Kudlow, economic advisor to the White House.

New criteria
US criticism came after China's decision to adopt new criteria for counting contaminated people, which triggered the number of people infected.
Now Chinese specialists consider "clinically diagnosed" people contaminated by lung radiographs, without having to wait for laboratory results.
With the change in counting methodology, Chinese specialists added 15,000 patients to the infected lists on Thursday. This Friday they added another 5,000.
These figures show a more serious situation than reported so far, but "it does not represent a significant change in the trajectory of the epidemic," said Michael Ryan.
The Chinese government has kept Hubei, with its almost 56 million inhabitants, in a gigantic quarantine for almost a month.
But the intense discontent of the population by the situation motivated the dismissal of the main leaders of the Communist Party (PCC) for Hubei and Wuhan on Thursday.

Quarantines
In other parts of the world, the corona virus Covid-19 epidemic keeps the authorities on alert, with more than 500 confirmed cases in about thirty countries.
In the United States, people who are sick with flu symptoms, but who tested negative for this disease, will be tested for the new coronavirus, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Friday.
A first group of uninfected passengers, 80 years of age or older, left the cruise on Friday and will conclude its period of isolation in government establishments on land.
For their part, the hundreds of passengers on an American cruise ship, which was banned from docking at five Asian ports for fear of the virus, were able to disembark Friday in Cambodia.
In France, a first group of returnees from China left this Friday from the center near Marseille (south) where they were quarantined.
