British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, hospitalized for four days with coronavirus, has left the intensive care unit and will begin his recovery in a general service at St Thomas Hospital in London, his government announced Thursday. London News Update: - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, hospitalized for four days with coronavirus, has left the intensive care unit and will begin his recovery in a general service at St Thomas Hospital in London, his government announced Thursday.
Johnson, 55, "has been transferred this afternoon from intensive care to the general ward, where he will be closely monitored during the initial phase of his recovery," a Downing Street spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the country on Thursday registered 881 new deaths of people hospitalized with coronavirus, reported Foreign Minister Domic Raab, who replaces Boris Johnson at the head of the government.
The total numbers of deaths in the country is 7,978, that is, 881 more than the day before, Raab said.
