Santiago de Chile.- The Chilean government said on Tuesday that it will begin to apply massive tests from Friday to detect asymptomatic patients or people who have had the new coronavirus without knowing it and that, since they developed antibodies, they will be able to get rid of the quarantines.
‘A new phase is coming, which is the identification of people who had the disease and who did not have the symptoms,’ Health Minister Jaime Mañalich said on Tuesday, at a time when 7,917 people were infected and 92 died of coronavirus in the country, reported AFP.
The test will measure the presence of antibodies against the disease and if it is positive, people will not need to be quarantined or subject to any type of restriction. They may return to work or study.
‘These people are immunized, they will not get sick again and they will not infect others,’ added the minister.
The government has purchased close to a million antibody tests and will begin applying them to people who work with older adults, prisons, or places where quarantine has been lifted.

It also empowered private companies and study centers to apply this test and determine if a worker or student is already immunized.

According to Mañalich, several investigations and international studies report populations that developed the disease without presenting symptoms and that have specific defenses against the virus, especially children and young people.
The measure adds to the ‘discharge card’ for recovered coronavirus patients, announced last week as a safe-conduct for circulation during quarantine.
Chile exhibits a low mortality rate in relation to the number of infected. The country has adopted as a policy determining selective quarantines and doing a large number of daily examinations. So far it has carried out a total of 87,800 tests.
